Station Ident

A Video for FilmStack Challenge #8

This month’s #FilmStack Challenge comes via Alex Rollins Berg

If you’ve got a Substack newsletter, make a commercial for it. Nothing too long or overly arduous - short and snappy.

Only after I made it that I realized I also over-performed and fit the second option

Or, if you’re feeling feisty and ambitious… here’s the second suggestion:

2. Join me in making a micro-short. Two minutes or less, one location, shot on a smart phone. Prompt:

  • Someone records a video message they’ll never send.

How does one wrap up “essays about stuff, mostly film and filmmaking,” “creepy short stories", “experimental videos,” and “movie recommendations” in a single ad? Well, frankly I should rebrand and maybe split those things into different periodicals, but I’m great at insisting on doing things not conducive to getting audience easily.

At any rate what ties them together is me, and the fact that I like looking at things and thinking if only I can tear through its surface and express its essence, then maybe I’d get somewhere; only risk is that behind/below/beyond the surface, reality might only be dark and maddening. It’s a risk I’m willing to take to satisfy my curiosity and get art out of it.

Here’s a station ident for this Substack, which should give you the vibes, should bring you into my video whimsy, and should answer the question of why I gave it its name: because you can always look again, and the second look is never the same as the first.

Be that a warning or invitation. Works either way.

Welcome to Indulging a Second Look.
