Requiem for a Good Schedule

polarisdib.substack.com

I had been wanting to post about my schedule and how it was working for me for a while, and now is a great time to do so because it’s ending. My part-time job is moving full-time, which is great for my checkbook and absolutely terrible for my desired schedule. Here’s how it was working:

Morning Standards

Every single weekday regardless of schedule, my alarm was set for 7am. I’d take somewhere between a half an hour to a full hour to actually get out of bed post alarm, but this is not something I feel is a problem I need to fix. I enjoy my 7-7:30/8ish staring at the early morning ceiling, playing Wordle, Quordle, and Globle, and generally chilling.

Then I’d get out of bed and face down the wailing squall of my hungry cats. This is a non-trivial early morning chore. I have to medicate both of them: the sad cat gets a pill and the fat cat gets goo in his ears.

Fatcat Pros: Is cute. Doesn’t puke so much. Fatcat Cons: Increases food budget, needs special goo for ears.
