The first Project Updates post was a whirlwind of deadlines and events coming up, this follow-up marks the occasion of my feet finally touching ground, hopefully in Kansas OR in Oz and not some useless fantasia that lacks Technicolor.
I’d recommend reading to the end, as at the bottom I get into some takeaways I had from the experience of diving back into “hustle.”
STILL SCREENING
Sunday night was the closing of the Queens World Film Festival in-person events. My short film In the Bowels of the Building is showing virtually on Film Festival Flix at this link from November 20th through December 4th. Please take the time to check it out later this month!
Unlike before when I hadn’t seen the other short films in my block, I can now assure you it’s just about the best horror block Bowels has screened in. I’m not sure if all of them will continue to show virtually, but I do know that 3:33 AM and Blue Fire will, and I heartily recommend both.
Here’s a fun glitch-aesthetic photograph my wife took of me while doing the standup Q&A at the end of the screening last Saturday:
As you can see the projection in the Zukor theatre made it difficult for the audience to see our faces, and I can attest it made it difficult for me to see the audience. However I hid in the little black logo of the Museum of the Moving Image so as not to be blinded by projector light, and the result is this awesome accidental projection art I’m rather fond of.
I’m under the impression QWFF wraps up the festival run of In the Bowels of the Building after which I need to get together with my co-producers and figure out next steps.
PROJECTS FINISHED
I discovered something important this last month: productivity / motivation people go on and on about how you should set deadlines for yourself to get things done, but nothing substitutes actual external deadlines where you miss your opportunity if you don’t deliver.
In that regard I’m actually amazed what I achieved over the last month:
